From disconnected activity to connected operations

Production should not depend on people stitching information together by hand.

Many manufacturing environments have the data they need, but it is spread across ERP screens, machine logs, paper travellers, quality records, spreadsheets, warehouse systems and individual knowledge. The result is delayed decisions, duplicate entry and limited visibility into what is actually happening on the floor.

A well-designed production management layer connects those signals into a clear operating model: what needs to be made, what material is available, what is running now, what is waiting, what has failed quality, what is late, and what needs attention next.

01 / DEMANDWhat must be produced?

Orders, forecast, priorities and due dates establish the production requirement.

02 / PLANHow will we make it?

Capacity, routing, skills, equipment and material constraints shape the schedule.

03 / EXECUTEWhat is happening now?

Work-order progress, counts, cycle times, downtime, WIP and exceptions update the operational picture.

04 / ASSUREIs it right?

Inspection results, holds, rework, deviations and traceability protect quality and compliance.

05 / IMPROVEWhat should change?

OEE, losses, bottlenecks and trend analytics guide continuous improvement.

Operational outcomes

Make production easier to see, control and improve.

The goal is not another dashboard. The goal is faster decisions, cleaner data, more predictable flow and a manufacturing system that makes problems visible early enough to act.

01

Schedule adherence

See planned versus actual progress, late work, blocked operations and risks to due dates before they become service failures.

02

Lower hidden WIP

Know what is waiting, where it is, why it stopped and how long it has been between process stages.

03

Faster issue response

Surface downtime, shortages, quality holds and abnormal cycle times while action is still possible.

04

Stronger traceability

Reduce time spent reconstructing production history by linking materials, process events and product records digitally.

05

More reliable KPI reporting

Replace manual spreadsheet consolidation with controlled measures based on a defined operational data model.

06

Continuous improvement evidence

Use loss reason, time, output and quality data to verify whether changes actually improve performance.

Architecture that respects your current environment

Connect the systems you already use—and create the production layer they cannot provide alone.

Production data often lives across ERP, databases, warehouse tools, quality applications, PLCs, sensors and spreadsheets. We design the integration pattern around data ownership, latency, reliability, security and maintainability.

What a connected production layer changes

Move from reporting what happened to controlling what happens next.

Production management becomes most valuable when the information supports decisions at the moment they are needed—from line operators through planners and management.

01 / VISIBILITY

Real-time operational context

See jobs, lines, materials, WIP and exceptions together rather than switching between disconnected sources.

02 / CONTROL

Standardised workflows

Digitise key decisions and status changes so production follows a consistent, auditable process.

03 / QUALITY

Quality at the point of production

Put specifications, checks, holds and defect handling into the same workflow as the job itself.

04 / TRACE

Faster genealogy and investigation

Connect input lots, operations and outputs to support recalls, investigations and root-cause analysis.

05 / FLOW

Better bottleneck visibility

Measure queue time, processing time, downtime and blocked work to understand where flow is being lost.

06 / LABOUR

Clearer workload and productivity

Understand workload, completion, task distribution and activity without turning the system into intrusive surveillance.

07 / COST

Less manual reconciliation

Reduce time spent rebuilding production reports from multiple spreadsheets and system exports.

08 / SERVICE

More dependable customer commitments

Use actual production position and constraints to improve completion forecasts and dispatch confidence.

09 / IMPROVE

Evidence for continuous improvement

Make losses measurable and compare before-and-after performance when processes are changed.

Connected manufacturing ecosystem

Production management works when information moves across the business.

We define where each record originates, which system owns it, how quickly it must move and how failures are handled. That lets the new production layer add visibility without creating another isolated data silo.

Production systems need reliability, auditability and usability—not just features.

Manufacturing software sits close to real operations. We design for clear permissions, predictable workflows, accurate timestamps, traceable changes, resilient integrations and interfaces people can use under production pressure.

01

Role-based access & accountability

Separate operator, supervisor, planner, quality, maintenance and administrative actions according to business responsibility.

02

Controlled data & audit history

Preserve who changed what, when and why for important production status, quality and traceability records.

03

Resilient integration behaviour

Design queues, retries, validation and exception visibility so a temporary interface problem does not silently corrupt the process.

04

Fast operator experience

Use focused screens, scanning, sensible defaults and clear status language to minimise friction at the point of production.

05

Secure deployment & support

Environment separation, access control, monitoring, backup and controlled release practices aligned to operational risk.

Modernise without stopping production

You may not need a rip-and-replace programme.

Some factories already have ERP, warehouse, quality and machine systems that perform their core jobs well. The missing layer is often visibility, workflow and integration. We can start there.

A staged approach can expose existing data, remove spreadsheet gaps, digitise one production workflow, build a management view, and then expand only after value is proven.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before a production management project begins.

The right architecture depends on your production process, existing systems, data quality, timing requirements and the decisions the solution must improve.

Discuss your production environment
What is a production management system?

It is a digital layer for controlling and understanding production activities such as planning, work orders, WIP, materials, shop-floor execution, quality, traceability, equipment performance and manufacturing KPIs. The exact scope varies by factory.

Is this the same as MES?

It can include MES-style capabilities, but we do not force every organisation into a full MES replacement. A solution may be a focused custom production application, a dashboard and workflow layer, an integration hub, or a broader execution platform depending on the need.

Can you integrate with JDE, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics or another ERP?

Yes, where suitable interfaces and access are available. Integration can use APIs, orchestration services, database views, event feeds, secure files or middleware. We first define data ownership so production logic does not conflict with the ERP.

Can the solution connect to machines, PLCs or IoT sensors?

Yes, where technically appropriate and permitted by the OT environment. Machine state, counts, alarms, measurements and condition signals can contribute to production visibility through gateways, OPC UA, MQTT, historians or other controlled interfaces.

Can you build OEE and downtime dashboards?

Yes. OEE can combine availability, performance and quality, with downtime and loss reasons designed around the actual process. We also define data-quality rules so the metric does not become misleading.

Can production management support batch and lot traceability?

Yes. Where source data exists, the system can link input material lots, process steps, equipment, operators, timestamps, quality results, intermediate outputs and finished-goods records for forward and backward traceability.

Do we have to replace spreadsheets immediately?

No. We can prioritise the spreadsheets that create the most delay, risk or duplicate work, then replace them in stages while retaining low-risk tools until there is a strong reason to move them.

Can Crown Technologies support multiple plants?

Yes. Multi-site architecture can standardise core data and KPIs while preserving site-specific routing, equipment, products, shifts, permissions and operational workflows.

From factory data to operating intelligence

Know what is happening now—and what needs attention next.

Production management should reduce the distance between an event and a decision. By connecting work orders, material, machine, quality and output data, teams can move from delayed reporting to proactive operational control.
